The pond itself as far a we know is one of the best purpose built model yacht ponds in the UK, It was built in 1928 along with the yacht pavilion to sail the large vane type pond yachts that were around at the time, as time has gone on radio control has replaced much of that, however there are still many families on a Sunday with the free sailing type yachts to be seen sailing from one side to the other.
